Yesterday at lunch while a short conversation with my colleague who is from Netgains Development Team (involved in SEO implementation), we were debating over the topic of the day “Content writing v.s SEO”. After the end of the discussion I felt I need to write about this for my other fellow developers. So conventionally when you ask any SEO Analyst (just like me) about the backbone behind a successful blog, common answer will be ‘good content’. Although, it is content which makes the blog rank sensible in the search engines but to optimize it to keep it user friendly is cardinal. While my research I picked up some quick tips to blend usability, quality and balanced SEO optimized content to achieve better ranking so here I go…

1. Keyword Density

As per the name suggests title refers to the number times keyword appears in the content. Experts advise to target keyword density to 2%-5%.If a specific keyword repeatedly appears on your page it will not have a natural flow and will also appear spam to readers.

Suitable way to increase the density and embed extra keywords is by adding them to header tags. Minor keyword research can add keyword variations and make your content look inborn.

2. Length Of The On-Page Content

Minimum length of page should be 250 words approximately for the content to be SEO optimized. Though creating longer content crossing minimum limit will help to pitch better ranking for specific keyword but having a longer content like 1000 words on certain pages may not make sense. Longer content on such pages reduces the interaction and lower the user-Friendly experience.

Text is to be placed in such a way below the links so that the usability is not reduced.

3. Bullet lists

Finest accord between SEO and user-Friendly content is the use of organize your content in bullet list. Bullet list keeps the content high on usability as it is easy to scan but at times search engine mark them as broken content. Therefore there are two ways to elude this:

a) Bullet list can be used as an outline for reader but making it explanatory but adding 2-3 in front of the title. By doing this criteria of having 250 words of unbroken content is fulfilled and bullets will make the content user-interactive.

b) A bullet list could be used in one of the subsections further down the page. If there is enough content before the list is used, that bullet list will have less of an impact on how the page is indexed.

4. Headers

If you one service or product and you have more than 250 words of content on one page , it is important to keep the user engaged. You do not want your content to appear long and drawn out.

This can be done by properly “structuring your content” by using header tags to section off the content. This will provide a break in the content that will give users a visual cue to grab the reader’s attention in order to help navigate the content. These breaks will also make the content appear shorter so that it is easier for users to read.

5. Concise Paragraphs

It is essential that 250 words of content on the page is high on usability. This can be done by keeping your paragraphs short and straight to the point.

By segmenting your writing in short paragraphs of 2-4 lines or maximum 5, users will be able to scan and absorb the content quickly. Readers prefer the content which is laid in manner to be easily read and absorbed.
